We had a good crew of 13 who brought their kayaks for this paddle on a hot west Florida day. Clear skies and very little breeze made for a warm, but calm, paddle. We left just about two hours before a full high tide. That made for an exciting run through the "chute". After emerging into the tidal lake below Double Hammock Creek, we paddled east to where Salt Springs Road meets the bayou. Then we fought a strong tidal current heading northeast into Double Hammock Creek and the Westport channel. As we neared the Gulf, we spotted two dolphin fishing along the shore. Paddling back through the open Gulf of Mexico and returning through Salt Spring Run was made easier by the incoming tide and the slight breeze at our backs.
